Description

A workshop for Engineering and Design Educators was held on 16th January 2012 by the Centre for Engineering and Design Education at Loughborough University as part of the Centre’s EDEN (Engineering and Design Educators Network) seminar series and funded by the HE Academy. Focusing on learning and teaching issues from an engineering and design perspective, EDEN is intended to provide practitioners with the opportunity to share and develop good practice.

The second seminar in our EDEN series took place in the Keith Green Building KGB, Loughborough University. Dr Peter Willmot from the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering was joined by Prof. Mike Bramhall (Professor of Engineering Education) and Keith Radley (media consultant) from Sheffield Hallam University to present their work on “Digital Video reporting to inspire and engage students”. The seminar discussed and demonstrated how student-produced audio visual media has been embedded into team research projects to great effect at both Loughborough and Sheffield Hallam. The creative approach, which is transferable across disciplines, has been shown to better engage students in the learning process by enhancing teamwork and motivation.

A project, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s HE-STEM programme, prepared a ‘toolkit’ for lecturers who wish to adopt this methodology in their teaching. If you were unable to attend but would like to learn more please contact Dr Peter Willmot in the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering here at Loughborough.
