Loughborough Design School wishes to implement extra-curricular enhancement activities to support and develop verbal presentation skills for final year students – specifically addressing confidence, persuasiveness and professionalism. They would like to use CEDE expertise to develop and deliver a series of group support sessions aimed at enhancing final year students’ presentation skills. There is a large cohort of students but there is not a formalised/ assessed opportunity for them to develop oral presentation skills. The students give a short presentation on their final year project but the presentation itself is not assessed. Some students who undertake an industrial placement may have the opportunity to develop these skills but this is dependent on the nature of the placement.

Expected outcomes

The activity aims to support the LDS contact to deliver a series of extra-curricular activities to enhance final year students’ presentation skills to develop the skills required and expected by employers. The material could also be adapted for future use by other Schools.


  • Produced detailed hand-out designed to help students in the Design School improve their verbal presentation skills.
  • Developed a workshop that is designed to give students an opportunity to improve their presentation skills in a non-threatening environment
  • Ran three workshops during semester 2 2011/2012.
